Board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Hernandez earned his medical degree from the Wright State School of Medicine in Dayton, OH, in 1997, and performed his OB-GYN residency at Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati. Born in Guam, he graduated from the US Air Force Academy with a degree in aeronautical engineering and served as an officer and pilot for eight years before entering medical school. He has also undergone further training at the International Society of Cosmetogynecology in Newark, NJ, in tumescent liposuction.

Since 2001, he has been in private practice with Sylvan Valley OB/GYN, PA, in Brevard. He is a member of the medical staff of Transylvania Community Hospital in Brevard, and now at Highlands-Cashiers Hospital. He expanded his practice to Highlands in July of 2006 and now practices here two days each month.

He sees both obstetrics and gynecology patients and performs surgery both here and in Brevard. However, deliveries and inpatient surgery are performed only in Brevard.
