A plastic
surgeon with 29 years of experience in private
practice and extensive teaching
experience at the University of Oklahoma Medical School,
Dr. Buchanan specializes in cosmetic rejuvenation of the
face and skin, as well as improvement of the breasts and
body. He also offers reconstruction, hand surgery and care,
and treatment of skin malignancies and other lesions. He
uses the latest techniques, including laser therapy as
well as new surgical
advances involving smaller incisions.
He
relocated his medical practice to Highlands from Oklahoma
City in 1999.
A
native of Atlanta, Dr. Buchanan attended Emory University
before going on to the Medical College
of Georgia, where he earned his medical degree in 1969. He
performed a surgical internships at Parkland Memorial
Hospital in Dallas, TX, before serving two years as a
physician in the
US Navy. Part of that tour of duty was spent
as a Field Surgical Officer attached to the US Marine
Corps
in Vietnam.
He
completed his residency in general surgery at the University
of North Carolina and his
residency in plastic surgery at Washington University in
St. Louis.
While
in Oklahoma, he was chief of plastic
surgery at the US Veterans Administration
Medical Center in Oklahoma City, and director of the Plastic
Surgery Clinic at the Oklahoma Memorial Hospital.
Dr.
Buchanan is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, where he was also a member of the Board of Governors. He a past
president and current member of the American Association for Hand
Surgery. He served on the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation
Board of Directors, and is an active member
of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American
Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
