Dr. Patti Wheeler joined the medical staff in 1988. She received her medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill and her undergraduate degree from UNC-Greensboro. She completed her internship and residency in family practice at the Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville, before opening her practice in Highlands.

She is certified by the American Board of Family Practice and is a member of the American Medical Association. She is also a member of the Regional Children’s Advisory Board which was developed by the Billy and Ruth Graham Children’s Program at Mission/St. Joseph’s Hospital in Asheville.

In June 2000 she formed Highlands Medical Associates, a new group practice that now includes Dr. Richard Olson..
